In September 2009, the Foundation provided financial support to young architects from the “Marek Rytych Architekt” office in Warsaw. These architects took third place in the international competition: “Interconnection and Communication with the Islands of Today and Tomorrow – BERING STRAIT PROJECT” announced by the Foundation for Peace and Unity, based in Korea. For the first time in history, Polish architects have won a prize in an architectural competition of such importance. Organised under the patronage of the prestigious International Union of Architects – the UIA (http://www.uia-architectes.org/), the contest comprised developing a concept of connecting the two continents of Asia and North America via an 80-kilometre long tunnel below the Bering Strait. After its completion, it will be possible to travel from Beijing to Chicago by train!
